Old World vs New World splits the wine world in two. Old World means Europe (France, Italy, Spain and more), leaning on tradition and place names. New World means everywhere else (USA, Australia, Chile and more), leaning on grape names and riper, fruitier styles.
Why it matters for WSET
This split is a basic frame WSET uses to explain label styles and taste differences between regions.
Example
Burgundy in France is Old World; California in the USA is New World.
